ABB Infinitus and Data-Center DC Power: RFQ Records for Automation Spares

ABB announced its Infinitus direct-current portfolio for AI data centers on September 22, 2026. The announcement describes a source-to-rack architecture spanning medium-voltage powertrains, DC sources and power quality, DC distribution, DC protection, and cooling optimization. For maintenance and procurement teams, the practical takeaway is to document the boundary between power equipment and automation controls before requesting replacement parts.

The announcement is a portfolio launch, not evidence that every site already uses this architecture. ABB says a number of main components are expected to be produced over the next twelve months and that the first DC-native facilities using the complete portfolio are expected within two to three years. Existing sites may remain AC, adopt a hybrid arrangement, or evolve in stages; each installation needs its own verified drawings and equipment records.

Map the system boundary before selecting a spare

A power architecture change can touch several adjacent layers without making their components interchangeable. Keep the following groups distinct in the asset register and in the RFQ:

  • Power conversion and distribution: identify the source, AC/DC conversion stage, bus voltage, distribution equipment, protective devices and their exact ratings.
  • Automation and monitoring: record PLC or DCS controller, I/O modules, power-monitoring devices, communication gateways, protocol interfaces and firmware.
  • Cooling and auxiliaries: note drive and motor part numbers, control method, feedback interfaces, supply characteristics and the relevant operating envelope.
  • Protection and interlocks: capture trip, alarm, permissive and emergency-shutdown interfaces, plus the approved configuration or drawing revision.

What to attach to a data-center automation RFQ

Include the complete nameplate and catalog number, hardware revision, installed options, supply details, firmware or software version, and clear photos of connectors and terminal labels. Add the cabinet or rack location, the function the device performs, upstream and downstream interfaces, and the latest approved single-line or control drawing reference. Redact credentials, network addresses and other sensitive configuration data before sharing documents externally.

If the request concerns a transition from AC to DC or a hybrid design, state whether the item belongs to the facility power path, control and monitoring layer, or a cooling subsystem. Ask the site engineer to confirm voltage class, protection coordination, isolation requirements and commissioning responsibility. A similar-looking module or matching family name does not establish electrical or functional compatibility.

Keep the news separate from the site decision

ABB’s announcement provides useful context for where data-center power architecture is heading. It does not identify the installed equipment at a particular facility or settle a replacement decision. Confirm the current bill of materials, project drawings, approved vendor documentation and operating requirements with the asset owner before procurement or installation.

NANKMOS handles industrial automation spare-part inquiries. You can browse the product catalogue, review brand information, read maintenance resources, or send an inquiry with verified identification details. Availability, condition, compatibility and lead time are confirmed case by case.
