Serial Gateway Advisory: RFQ Records for RTU and Communication Module Spares
Use CISA’s serial gateway advisory as maintenance context to prepare RFQ records for RTU and communication module spares.
CISA published ICSA-26-239-05 for Ebyte NA111-M on August 27, 2026. The advisory concerns a compact communication device rather than a large PLC platform, but it is a useful reminder for plants using serial-to-Ethernet gateways, RTUs and remote communication modules in field cabinets.
For NANKMOS inquiries, this kind of advisory is used as maintenance context only. It is not a statement about stock, authorization, originality or guaranteed compatibility. The practical goal is to make an RFQ precise enough that the requested communication spare can be checked against the installed field wiring, protocol and cabinet environment.
Why gateway records matter in older field cabinets
Small communication gateways often connect legacy serial devices to Ethernet networks. They may sit beside RTUs, pump controllers, analyzers, drives, meters or remote I/O drops. When one module fails or becomes part of a risk review, the printed model number is only the starting point. Baud rate, protocol, IP address, power supply, terminal wiring and enclosure conditions can all affect the replacement discussion.
In a live plant, a communication module may also support data collection, alarm forwarding, maintenance access or historian connectivity. Before requesting a spare, the maintenance team should identify whether the device is a standalone converter, a managed gateway, an RTU accessory or part of a wider SCADA communication path.
RFQ fields to prepare for serial and Ethernet communication spares
- Exact model number, firmware version and hardware revision if visible.
- Communication role: serial-to-Ethernet converter, RTU gateway, protocol bridge, modem or remote access module.
- Serial side details such as RS-232, RS-485, RS-422, baud rate, parity and connected field device.
- Ethernet side details such as IP address requirements, switch connection, VLAN or SCADA network boundary if relevant.
- Power supply, DIN rail mounting, enclosure rating and terminal wiring constraints.
- Replacement scope: exact same unit, compatible gateway, accessory, power component or complete cabinet-side communication set.
These details reduce back-and-forth because many gateway inquiries fail on missing site context rather than on the part number itself. A clear RFQ also helps avoid confusing a hardware spare request with a software remediation, network redesign or cybersecurity project.
How to frame the inquiry for NANKMOS
If your maintenance team is checking communication spares, start from photos of the module faceplate and terminal wiring. You can review related communication module listings, compare RTU-related products, search for serial interface items, or send confirmed model details through the NANKMOS contact form.
For wider system context, the Product Systems section can help separate communication, controller, I/O and power-supply boundaries before an RFQ is sent. Include the advisory reference only when it is relevant to your maintenance review or site risk records.
Send your part number, photos or nameplate.
Our team will verify, check availability, and reply with options within 24 hours.
